One guide, three drafts

A shorter version can lose a detail that matters. This example lets you compare each draft with its source and see what was kept.

Sample inputs

This is a written example, not a record of a client project or a measured result. The requested formats are an email blurb, a LinkedIn post, and a short thread. The audience is people trying an agent for the first time. The voice is plain and practical.

For your first file task with an AI agent, create a folder called
ai-practice. Copy a few non-sensitive notes into it and leave the
originals where they are.

Ask the agent to read those copies and draft a checklist in a new
file. Give the exact folder and output filename. Tell it to leave
the source files unchanged and ask before working outside that folder.

Open the output yourself. Compare it with the notes and check for
missed details or tasks it added. Ask for a correction if needed.
You do not need to connect email or other accounts for this exercise.

Draft 1: email blurb

Try an agent on a few copies of your notes

Make an ai-practice folder and copy in a few notes that contain no sensitive information. Keep the originals where they are.

Give the agent one job: read those copies and draft a checklist in a new file. Specify the folder and filename, tell it to leave the source files alone, and ask it to check with you before working elsewhere.

Open the checklist and compare it with the notes. Look for missing details or added tasks, then request any corrections. You can do this exercise without connecting email or other accounts.

Draft 2: LinkedIn post

A useful first task for an AI agent: turn a few notes into a checklist.

Set up the exercise before giving it the task:

• Create an ai-practice folder.
• Copy in a few non-sensitive notes. Keep the originals elsewhere.
• Specify the output filename and tell the agent to leave the sources unchanged.
• Ask it to check with you before working outside that folder.

Then open the result. Compare it with the notes, including any tasks the agent may have added. Ask it to fix what you find.

No email or account connections are needed for this exercise.

Draft 3: three-post thread

What to check

All three drafts keep the folder boundary, copies of the source, a new output file, and a human review. None adds a time saved, a success rate, or a personal story.

The shorter thread has less explanation. If your audience needs help creating a folder, include a link to instructions you have checked rather than squeezing every step into the post.
